Kanzanji Onsen: The Virtues of its Waters and the Origin of its Name

Photo

The name "Kanzanji Onsen" derives from Kanzanji Temple, a Soto Zen sect temple situated on Mount Tateyama, north of the hot spring town.
Kanzanji Temple hosts events throughout the year, such as the fire festival on December 15th and the hand-held fireworks display on New Year's Day. These events, dedicated to prayers for safety, peace, and health, provide spiritual solace to the local community and are a source of delight for visitors.
